On July 10th, 1943, 250,000 Allies landed in Sicily. It was the largest water operation ever. Mussolini resigned. Germans sent the army to Italy. There was tons of fierce fighting going on. On June 4th, 1944 Rome gets taken by the Allies. Thousands were killed.

D-Day
On June 1944, we invade France through the English Channel. It was the biggest secret of war. Dwight David Eisenhower was the U.S. General. The Nazis built up along the coast. There were 58 divisions. The Allies tricked the Axis by going through Calais, the shortest distance. They sent radio broadcasts to fool the Nazis. On June 6, 1944, D-Day, in Normandy, France there were 600 warships, 4000 support crafts, and 11,000 planes. D-Day was a success.
Hitler was still waiting at Calais. The Allies secured the beach. There were 326,000 men, 50,000 vehicles, and 100,000 supplies. D-Day was the bloodiest war in history. Many were killed.

The Allies on the Move
It took to allies 6 weeks to take Paris. After the United States took over Paris, we defeated the Germans. The Soviets attacked from the east while we attacked from the west.
Battle of the Bulge
On Dec. 16, 1944 was the Germans 1 final attack. Their goals were to seize the main Allied base and to cut the Allied army in half.The attack happened during horrible weather and the Allied planes were grounded. The Nazis hid in the woods and surprised the Allies.The Germans had a good start. They advanced 60 miles and created a "Bulge". The Nazis surrounded McAuliffe. McAuliffe holds on and the Bulge was pintched off. The U.S. loses heavy. The Nazis lost 120,000 of their best soldiers. The Allies win!
